What is the VITA Program?

VITA is an IRS sponsored, free tax preparation program that is offered to low to moderate income, elderly and disabled members of the community who are not able to afford professional tax filing services. All tax preparers are trained in tax law and are required to be certified by the IRS to prepare tax returns as volunteers.

Creating an account in TaxSlayer Training Lab


1. Follow the link: https://vita.taxslayerpro.com/IRSTraining/en/Account/Access
2. Enter password “TRAINPROWEB” (ALL CAPS )
3. Click on the “Create Account” link
4.Enter Email address
5. Create a user name and password
6. Select VITA as the program type. Leave the “Site identification number” space blank
7. Select and answer a security question for password recovery purposes
8. Press the green “Create Account” button

Note: Be sure to keep your user name, password, and security question in a safe place as you will need to use it later.


Accessing Training lesson and Practice Lab


1. Follow the link: https://vita.taxslayerpro.com/IRSTraining/en/Account/Access
2. Enter password “TRAINPROWEB” (ALL CAPS)
3. Enter your user name and password
4. On the Practice Lab home screen scroll down to “Section 4: Preparing a return” and complete the lessons listed below:

Note: You will be asked to enter your first name, last name, email address and select VITA as the program type and the beginning of each lesson.

Completing Practice Tax Returns


1. Log in to the practice lab
2. Scroll down to Section 6: Enhancements and Miscellaneous
3. Click on “Practice Return 1”
4. You will be provided with answer checkpoints on the lesson screen
5. Click on the “Attachment” Tab
6. Download the PDF file provided
7. Follow the instructions to start a return
